After using the Panasonic GH4 for a few months I knew that I needed to invest some time and money in finding a memory card that would work well with my camera. I knew that I needed a high capacity card and I also knew that I needed a fast card that could keep up with the high data rate that the Panasonic GH4 requires. I stumbled upon the Transcend 64GB Memory Card after reading a variety of posts about this particular card. I figured that I would break down and purchase the card and give it a whirl. After a few months using this card I can honestly say that I’ve made an exceptional choice with this card.
- 64GB card is great: I can shoot almost an entire day on one card with the GH4 and the card will still have some space left over.
- Supports 4k: The Panasonic GH4 records at a maximum of 4096 x 2016 at 24fps and a bit rate of 100mbps (which is roughly 12.5MB/s). To sufficiently record all of this data in 4K you need a card that write data at 12.5MB/s. The Transcend 64GB Memory Card writes at roughly 60MB/s, which is almost 5x the amount of data write speed you need. This card can also handle the 1920 x 1080 @ 200mbps (25MB/s) with great ease.
- Price is extremely low for this card: This card is priced at under $35, which is almost $30 cheaper than the Sandisk equivalent.
- Data rate maxes out at 63/Mbs which means that the card isn’t meant for all cameras: I haven’t tried maxing this card out on a camera like the Canon 5D Mark III or Canon 60D.
Why I recommend
I would recommend this memory card because the price is just right for someone who is looking cut cost, while at the same time purchase a quality product. Like I said, this is a great memory card for the Panasonic GH4. I recommend buying at least 2 when you get them, that way you always have an extra one handy.
